Why do this tour?

There are many reasons why this tour is beneficial for the boys, it goes far beyond rugby. This is a potentially life-changing experience for the boys and those that don’t go, typically regret it. International rugby is a great experience, but it is also important for the boys to experience a very different culture with perhaps an even greater passion for rugby. There is then the team building, the food, the comradery, the other experiences and more. Why would you miss this great opportunity! It’s not just the tour itself, the preparation for this tour has already started and the boys will have to put in a big effort to fund raise and prepare for the tour. This too is great experience for the boys.

How much is the tour?

A tour like this costs money, and whilst we don’t have final numbers, we expect the cost for each player to be around $4000. It will be a similar amount for each parent, coach, manager, etc. that also comes along.

Can we reduce the costs?

Yes! The boys that put the most effort into fundraising will get the biggest reduction in their costs. Historically, many of the boys ended up paying less than $1000 for the trip. But it really will depend on how much money the boys and the parents can raise through a whole range of fundraising activities we can carry out over the coming year. It is worth remembering, that ALL funds raised will go towards reducing the costs for the boys. Any parents that come along will have to pay full price.

Who else goes on the tour?

A squad needs a coach (or 3), a manager (or two) and some parents to help coordinate and keep the boys on track. We would anticipate that there will be 10 plus parents coming along too.

Can families come?

No and yes. First and foremost this is a tour for the boys. It is worth remembering that. However, families are welcome to organise their own trip to the close by venues and come along and watch the boys play their matches. Given that it will be just before the school holidays, it might be better to organise to meet up at the end of the tour if you also want to have a family holiday. Maybe come along to the last game which will likely be on that last day of the tour. If you do want to come along during the tour, it is worth remembering that you will have to organise all your own accommodation, transport to and from the matches and there will be plenty of activities that will be players only.

How many games are on the tour?

At least 2, but probably 3. These will be against local schools and the standard is high. It will also be a very different cultural experience and it will be a lot of fun. As well as playing rugby, we will also be bringing gifts for the schools and opposing teams.

What else do the boys do?

The full itinerary is still to be planned, but they will have a busy week with plenty of activities and experiences that they will remember for the rest of their lives. There will be tour rules. There will be court held every morning and appropriate punishments laid out to players and parents alike. All in good spirits, of course!

Will there be alcohol?

For the boys, this will be a zero alcohol tour. They are too young. No negotiations. There will be a zero-tolerance approach to alcohol.

What do the parents have to do?

As parents, we are going to have to help with the fundraising and coordination of this tour. We’ll heed everyone to help out in one way or another so please be prepared. It is worth it though. Not much good comes without some effort being put in. Once we know who is coming, we’ll be getting together to agree who will be on the committee and what jobs and roles there are for everyone else.

Can I spread the payments?

We will be looking at payment plan options and how to spread the costs through the year. If you want your son to attend, but have genuine difficulty with the costs, please let us know and we may be able to help or work with you to find a way. We really want all the boys who can to come on the tour.
